Doors & Windows

The interior doors that never quite latch and drag on the carpet. The drafty old entry door that the winter rain finds its way around. The single-pane or fogged windows that bleed heat and block the view. The dark hallway that wants a sun tunnel. Doors & Windows is the trade for every opening in the house — interior and exterior doors hung plumb and square, replacement windows set and flashed against Pacific Northwest rain, weatherproofing that actually seals, and skylights that bring light without leaks. From $150 for a weatherstripping package up to $10000 for French patio doors or a whole-home window run. Hung square, flashed right, trimmed clean — the difference between an opening that works for decades and one that drafts, sticks, and leaks.

Services

Door & Window Services

Every opening in a house is a door or a window, and each one has to do two jobs — operate smoothly and keep the weather out. We cover the full range, from a closet bifold to a whole-home window package, and we are honest about which jobs are straightforward handyman work and which route to a licensed trade.

Interior Doors

Interior door replacement, barn doors, bifold and closet doors, pocket doors in an existing frame, and door casing and trim. Hung plumb and square so they latch and swing right, trimmed clean.

Exterior Doors

Entry door replacement, fiberglass entry doors, storm doors, sliding patio and French patio doors, security and screen doors, and pet doors. Flashed and sealed against PNW rain, set plumb so they seal and lock.

Windows

Insert and full-frame replacement windows in vinyl, fiberglass, and wood-clad; basement egress windows; bay and garden windows; window trim; fogged-glass IGU replacement; and hardware and balance repair.

Weatherproofing

Flashing and sealing, sill and brickmold rot repair, and weatherstripping packages — the work that keeps wind and rain out of every door and window opening.

Skylights & Sun Tunnels

Skylight replacement, new skylight installation, sun tunnels and tubular skylights, and skylight leak repair — light from above without the leaks skylights are infamous for.

Why Handis for Doors & Windows

A door or window install goes wrong in two ways. The operational way — a door hung out of plumb that drags, sticks, or will not latch, or a window set out of square that binds. And the weather way — an exterior opening that was set but never properly flashed, so Pacific Northwest rain works behind the trim and rots the framing within a few wet winters. We hang every door plumb, level, and square with even reveals, and we flash and seal every exterior opening to shed water the way the building envelope intends. The trim is the last ten percent that makes it look like it was always there.

Plumb, level, and square — every door and window

A door is only as good as how it is hung. We shim every door plumb and level with even reveals so it swings true, latches cleanly, and does not drag. Windows are set square so the sashes operate smoothly and the seals seat evenly. Getting the install geometry right is the difference between an opening that works for decades and one that fights you daily.

Flashed and sealed against Pacific Northwest rain

An exterior opening that is set but not properly flashed is a slow leak waiting to rot the framing. We flash every exterior door and window — sill pan, jamb flashing, head flashing lapped to shed water out and down — and seal with the right backer rod and sealant. PNW rain is relentless, and the flashing is what keeps it on the outside.

Honest about handyman scope versus licensed trades

Most door, window, and weatherproofing work is straightforward carpentry we self-perform. Some jobs cross into licensed territory — a basement egress window that needs an engineered cut and a permit, structural header changes, or any electrical near a powered opening. We tell you on the estimate which parts are ours and which route to a licensed trade, named as line items, never buried.

Trimmed and finished clean

The install is not done until the trim is right. We case and trim every door and window so the reveal is even, the miters are tight, and the caulk line is clean — the finish that makes a new opening read like it was always part of the house rather than a part that got swapped in.

Estimate

List the openings that need work — interior doors that stick, a drafty entry door, fogged or single-pane windows, a leaky skylight, drafts around any opening — and tell us roughly how many of each. Photos help us see the condition and the trim. We will quote the doors, windows, and weatherproofing your home needs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Handis door and window services.

What door and window services do you offer?
We cover the full range — interior doors (replacement, barn, bifold and closet, pocket, casing and trim), exterior doors (entry, fiberglass, storm, sliding and French patio, security and screen, pet doors), windows (insert and full-frame replacement in vinyl, fiberglass, and wood-clad; basement egress; bay and garden; trim; fogged-glass IGU replacement; hardware and balance repair), weatherproofing (flashing and sealing, sill and brickmold rot repair, weatherstripping), and skylights and sun tunnels. Each category page has detailed pricing and scope.
How much do doors and windows cost?
It ranges widely by category. Weatherproofing starts at $150 (a weatherstripping package), interior doors from $300, exterior doors from $200 (a screen door) up to $10,000 (French patio doors), windows from $200 (hardware repair) up to $9,500 (a basement egress window), and skylights and sun tunnels from $400 (a leak repair) to $7,000 (a new skylight). Each category page breaks down per-service pricing, and you get a written estimate for your specific openings before any work begins.
Do you flash exterior doors and windows properly?
Yes — and it is the part that matters most in our climate. An exterior opening that is set but not properly flashed leaks behind the trim and rots the framing within a few wet Pacific Northwest winters. We flash every exterior door and window with a sill pan, jamb flashing, and head flashing lapped to shed water out and down, then seal with backer rod and the right sealant. Flashing is not optional or an upsell on our installs; it is how the opening is built to last.
Will my interior doors finally latch and stop dragging?
Yes — most door problems are install geometry, not the door itself. A door that drags, sticks, or will not latch is almost always hung out of plumb or has a misaligned strike. We shim every door plumb and level with even reveals, set the hinges correctly, and align the strike so it latches cleanly and swings true. Whether it is a new door or rehanging an existing one, getting it plumb and square is what makes it work.
Which jobs are handyman work and which need a licensed trade?
Most door, window, weatherproofing, and skylight work is straightforward carpentry we self-perform. Some jobs cross into licensed territory and we route them honestly — a basement egress window that needs an engineered foundation cut and a permit, any structural header modification, gas or electrical near an opening. We tell you on the estimate exactly which parts are our scope and which go to a licensed trade as named line items, so you always know who is doing what.
Can you replace just the foggy glass instead of the whole window?
Often, yes — and it saves a lot of money. A window that is fogged or has condensation between the panes has a failed insulated glass unit (IGU) seal, but if the frame and sashes are sound, we can replace just the glass unit rather than the whole window. We assess whether an IGU swap is viable or whether the window is far enough gone that replacement is the better value, and we tell you honestly which one your windows need.
Do you handle whole-home window packages?
Yes — from a single window to a whole-home package. For larger jobs we sequence the work so your home is never left exposed overnight, manage the material delivery, and keep the interior protected during the swap. A whole-home package is also the most efficient way to buy, since the per-window cost drops with volume. We quote the package as one number with the per-window scope clear.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. A one-year project warranty covers every door and window install — the operation (plumb, square, smooth swing and latch), the flashing and seal against water, and the trim. If a door starts to drag, a window binds, a flashed opening leaks, or trim opens up because of our workmanship within a year, we come back and fix it. The doors, windows, and skylights themselves carry their manufacturer warranties, which stay valid because we install to spec.
