TimberTech Deck Installation

Handis TimberTech deck installation builds a new composite deck using the TimberTech residential line — Reserve (full PVC, 50-year warranty), Legacy or Vintage (premium capped composite, 30-year warranty, the deepest wood-grain emboss in the category), or Edge (mid-tier capped, 25-year warranty) — with the TimberTech Concealoc hidden-fastener system, color-matched TimberTech fascia at the rim, and TimberTech composite or aluminum railing — built on pressure-treated framing at the TimberTech-specified joist spacing, ledger through-bolted and Z-flashed per IRC, and TimberTech warranty registered on your behalf after final inspection — from $32,000 for a standard Vintage or Edge build on a 300 to 400-square-foot footprint to $68,000 for a premium Reserve PVC build with cap rail, mitered fascia, picture-frame border, and aluminum baluster railing on a larger footprint. TimberTech (owned by AZEK Building Products) makes the deepest wood-grain emboss in the composite category — Legacy and Vintage read closest to real wood at arm's length, often closer than the homeowner expects. Reserve is full cellular PVC with the longest residential warranty (50-year limited fade-and-stain). We install all four TimberTech residential tiers and will recommend the right one on the booking call.

What Does a TimberTech Deck Install Include?

A TimberTech deck install is a full new-construction build with TimberTech decking — covering site staking and footing layout, concrete pier or helical pier footings, pressure-treated framing at the TimberTech-specified joist spacing (12-inch on-center on Reserve and Legacy, 16-inch on-center on Vintage and Edge per TimberTech spec), through-bolted Z-flashed ledger on attached builds per IRC R507.9.1.3, TimberTech decking install with the Concealoc hidden-fastener clip system, color-matched TimberTech fascia at the rim joist, TimberTech composite cap rail and railing (or aluminum baluster upgrade), low-voltage stair lighting, final cleanup, and TimberTech warranty registration on your behalf within the manufacturer's window after final inspection. Handis covers TimberTech builds from $32,000 on a standard Vintage or Edge build up to $68,000 on a premium Reserve PVC build with mitered fascia, cap rail, picture-frame border, and aluminum baluster railing.

The Four TimberTech Residential Lines

Reserve is full cellular PVC — the highest-end TimberTech product, no wood content at all in the board. 50-year limited fade-and-stain warranty (the longest residential warranty in the broader composite/PVC category), the most weather-resistant TimberTech board, and the lightest weight per square foot. The right pick when budget allows and the homeowner wants the longest warranty and the no-wood-content advantage.

Legacy is the top capped polymer over wood-composite core — TimberTech's deepest wood-grain emboss in the capped composite category, 30-year fade-and-stain warranty, and a color range that includes the wood-look classics (Pecan, Tigerwood) that many homeowners pick over Reserve specifically for the look. The right pick when the wood look matters more than the longest warranty.

Vintage is the mid-tier capped polymer with the same deep emboss as Legacy in a narrower color range — 30-year warranty, mid-range pricing. The right pick when the homeowner wants TimberTech's signature look without the Legacy price.

Edge is the entry-tier capped polymer — TimberTech's most affordable line, 25-year warranty. The right pick when budget is the driver and the homeowner still wants the TimberTech brand and the Concealoc install system.

Concealoc Hidden-Fastener System

The TimberTech Concealoc clip system is the manufacturer-specified hidden-fastener install for TimberTech decking. Clips set in the groove of each board edge, screw driven into the joist below at every clip, with the recommended gap spacing per TimberTech spec. The result is a screw-free deck surface — no top-driven screws to wear, pull, or rust. Using a generic clip on TimberTech voids the manufacturer warranty.

Color-Matched TimberTech Fascia + TimberTech Railing

Every TimberTech deck Handis builds gets color-matched TimberTech fascia at the rim joist and either TimberTech composite railing (cap rail with composite balusters in matching color) or the aluminum baluster railing upgrade (composite top rail with powder-coated aluminum balusters for the more modern look). Both railing options are TimberTech-specified with matching warranty coverage.

12-Inch on-Center Joist Spacing on Reserve and Legacy

TimberTech specifies 16-inch on-center maximum joist spacing for all lines, but Handis builds Reserve and Legacy at 12-inch on-center as standard practice — supporting the wood-grain side flatter over the 30 to 50-year warranty horizons. Vintage and Edge build at 16-inch on-center per TimberTech spec when the budget calls for it; the tradeoff is explained on the booking call.

Why Homeowners Book Handis for TimberTech Decks

Why Homeowners Book Handis for TimberTech Decks

TimberTech is the brand the wood-purist homeowner picks. The deep wood-grain emboss on Legacy and Vintage is the closest any composite gets to reading as real wood at arm's length — the kind of detail that takes the guest's first comment from "is that composite?" to "I assumed cedar". Reserve takes the brand into full PVC territory with a 50-year warranty — the longest residential warranty in the broader composite/PVC category. AZEK (TimberTech's parent company) built the brand on the premium end of the market and the products earn the position. The tradeoff is price — TimberTech runs $2,000 to $5,000 more than Trex per build at comparable size, and Reserve runs $5,000 to $10,000 more than Transcend. For homeowners where the look and the warranty both matter, TimberTech is the right answer. We install all four residential lines and we will tell you on the booking call which one fits.

Concealoc hidden-fastener system on every TimberTech install

TimberTech Concealoc is the manufacturer-specified hidden-fastener clip for TimberTech composite and Reserve PVC. We install Concealoc on every TimberTech build — using a generic clip voids the manufacturer warranty.

12-inch on-center joist spacing on Reserve and Legacy

TimberTech specifies 16-inch on-center maximum joist spacing across all lines, but Handis builds Reserve and Legacy at 12-inch on-center as standard practice. The closer spacing supports the wood-grain side flatter over the 30 to 50-year warranty horizons.

Color-matched TimberTech fascia, never a stained PT rim

The rim joist of every TimberTech deck Handis builds gets color-matched TimberTech fascia covering the framing edge — same color and texture as the decking. A stained PT rim fades on a different cycle than the composite deck on top — a tell-tale install shortcut we do not take.

TimberTech warranty registered on your behalf, within the manufacturer's window

TimberTech requires the install to be registered with the manufacturer within a specified window (typically 60 to 90 days from purchase) for the limited warranty to be active. Handis registers the warranty on your behalf after final inspection — you get the registration confirmation, the warranty certificate, and the original paperwork. The warranty is transferable once to a subsequent owner.

IRC ledger schedule, through-bolted, Z-flashed, bottom-plate-inspected

Every attached TimberTech-deck ledger gets through-bolted with 1/2-inch hot-dipped galvanized or stainless lag bolts at 16-inch on-center staggered top/bottom per IRC R507.9.1.3, Z-flashed under the siding with the flashing leg tucked behind the WRB, and the wall behind the ledger gets opened, the bottom plate inspected, and replaced if rotted.

Insured, background-checked, 2-year structural + TimberTech limited warranty

Handis carries general liability and workers' compensation; every carpenter has cleared a background screening. Two-year Handis warranty on structural framing — joists, beams, posts, ledger flashing. One-year Handis warranty on decking install, railing, cap rail, fascia. The TimberTech limited warranty (25 years on Edge, 30 years on Vintage and Legacy, 50 years on Reserve) covers the boards under TimberTech's terms.

Estimate

Tell us the square footage you have in mind, the TimberTech line (Reserve PVC, Legacy, Vintage, Edge — or you want a recommendation), the color preference (the TimberTech catalog has 6 to 10 colors per line), the railing system (TimberTech composite standard, aluminum baluster upgrade), and any add-ons (stairs, built-in bench, low-voltage lighting, hot-tub framing). We send a clear estimate with the TimberTech spec, the warranty terms, and the permit/engineering pass-through line items named.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about TimberTech deck installation — line comparison, warranty terms, install details, Reserve PVC vs capped composite, and color selection.

How much does a TimberTech deck cost?
A standard TimberTech Edge build (300 to 400 square feet) starts at $32,000. A TimberTech Vintage build of the same size starts at $36,000. A TimberTech Legacy build of the same size starts at $40,000. A TimberTech Reserve PVC build (300 to 400 square feet) starts at $45,000 — the premium PVC pricing reflects the 50-year warranty and the full-PVC construction. A mid-tier build (400 to 500 square feet) with Vintage or Legacy plus aluminum baluster railing starts at $50,000. A premium Legacy build (500 to 700 square feet) with cap rail, mitered fascia, picture-frame border, and low-voltage lighting starts at $56,000. A Reserve premium build of the same size starts at $62,000. The top-end Reserve build (700+ square feet, complex layout) lands at $68,000. You get a written estimate with the TimberTech spec, the warranty terms, and the engineering and permit pass-through line items named.
Reserve, Legacy, Vintage, or Edge — which TimberTech line is right for me?
Reserve is full cellular PVC — the most weather-resistant TimberTech product, 50-year limited fade-and-stain warranty (the longest residential warranty in the broader composite/PVC category), and the lightest weight per square foot. The right pick when budget allows and the longest warranty matters. Legacy is the premium capped polymer — the deepest wood-grain emboss in the capped composite category, 30-year warranty, color range that includes the wood-look classics. The right pick when the wood look matters more than the longest warranty. Vintage is the mid-tier capped polymer with the same emboss as Legacy in a narrower color range — same 30-year warranty at lower pricing. Edge is the entry-tier capped polymer — most affordable, 25-year warranty. We walk through samples on the estimate visit.
What is Reserve PVC vs capped composite?
Reserve is full cellular PVC — there is no wood content in the board, even in the core. Capped composite (Legacy, Vintage, Edge) is a polymer cap over a wood-composite core (recycled wood fiber bound with polymer). The advantages of Reserve PVC are the longer warranty (50 years vs 30 on Legacy/Vintage), the lighter weight (less load on the framing and footings — an advantage on hillside builds), the slightly higher weather resistance because there is no wood content to absorb moisture under any failure mode, and the slightly cooler surface temperature in direct sun. The advantage of capped composite is the price (Legacy runs about $5,000 less than Reserve on a same-size build) and the deeper wood-grain emboss on Legacy specifically — for some homeowners the Legacy wood-look beats Reserve on aesthetics.
What is Concealoc?
TimberTech Concealoc is the manufacturer-specified hidden-fastener clip for TimberTech composite and Reserve PVC decking. The clip sets in the groove of each board edge, the screw drives into the joist below at every clip, and the result is a screw-free deck surface. Concealoc is required for warranty coverage on TimberTech installs — using a generic clip voids the manufacturer warranty. Every Handis TimberTech install uses Concealoc as standard practice.
What does the TimberTech warranty cover?
The Reserve 50-year limited fade-and-stain warranty covers the boards against fading (no significant color loss beyond manufacturer tolerance), staining (resistance to food, drink, and most household stains), structural failure of the board material, and surface checks or cracking due to manufacturing defect. Legacy and Vintage carry the same coverage on a 30-year term. Edge carries the same coverage on a 25-year term. The TimberTech railing carries its own warranty (typically 25 years residential). The warranty does NOT cover install errors, damage from impact or improper cleaning chemicals, or aesthetic complaints within manufacturer color-variation tolerance. Handis registers the warranty on your behalf within the manufacturer's window and you get the certificate at project close.
Why does Handis build Reserve and Legacy at 12-inch on-center joist spacing?
TimberTech specifies 16-inch on-center maximum joist spacing across all lines, but the closer 12-inch on-center spacing supports the wood-grain side flatter over long timeframes. On Reserve with the 50-year warranty horizon and Legacy with the 30-year horizon, the closer spacing adds significant flat-life to the surface. The cost is about 30 percent more joists and a couple of working days of framing. We build 16-inch on-center on Vintage and Edge per TimberTech spec when the budget calls for it and explain the tradeoff on the booking call.
TimberTech composite railing or aluminum balusters — which should I pick?
TimberTech composite railing (cap rail with composite balusters) matches the decking color exactly — the unified composite look. Powder-coated aluminum balusters (with a composite top rail) read more modern, thinner balusters, more open sight lines — the right pick when the deck has a view or when the aesthetic is contemporary. The aluminum upgrade adds about $5,000 to $7,000 to a standard build. Both systems are TimberTech-specified products with matching warranty coverage.
What colors does TimberTech come in?
Reserve has the widest color range in the TimberTech catalog — Driftwood, Antique Leather, Brownstone, English Walnut, Storm Grey, and several wood-look classics. Legacy has the deepest wood-grain emboss in the catalog and carries Pecan, Tigerwood, Espresso, and similar premium tones. Vintage carries the same emboss in a narrower color range — Mahogany, Weathered Teak, English Walnut. Edge is the entry tier with Sandalwood, Coconut Husk, Maritime Grey. We bring physical samples to the estimate visit so you can see the color in your specific site light.
Will the TimberTech deck get hot in direct sun?
Dark-colored TimberTech boards (Espresso, Tigerwood, English Walnut) read warmer than light-colored boards in direct sun — a normal effect for capped composite and PVC. Reserve runs slightly cooler than capped composite at the same color because PVC has slightly lower thermal absorption than the wood-composite core. Light-colored TimberTech (Sandalwood, Storm Grey, Coconut Husk) reads cooler and is the recommendation for full-sun west-facing decks if barefoot use matters.
How long does the TimberTech build take?
A standard TimberTech build (300 to 400 square feet) runs 11 to 14 working days. The framing is 4 to 6 days; the TimberTech decking install with Concealoc fasteners adds 2 to 4 days more than a wood-screwed deck because the clips take longer per board; the railing and cap-rail detailing adds 1 to 2 days; the fascia and picture-frame border adds 1 day. A larger or multi-level TimberTech build can run 3 to 4 weeks. Permit and inspection time adds 2 to 4 weeks before any framing starts.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Handis carries general liability and workers' compensation; every carpenter has cleared a background screening before the first job. Two-year Handis warranty on structural framing — joists, beams, posts, ledger flashing. One-year Handis warranty on the TimberTech decking install, the TimberTech railing, the cap rail, and the fascia. The TimberTech limited warranty (25 years on Edge, 30 years on Vintage and Legacy, 50 years on Reserve) covers the boards under the manufacturer's terms; Handis registers the warranty on your behalf after final inspection.
